The BKA completed its second race day for the 2009 season with an exciting days racing on the 28th February. The Crane & Equipment race day was completed under glorious sunshine where the pace was hot. They were some short delays during the morning session however on commencement of qualifying the proceedings went as planned.

The day saw an encouraging turn out of 23 drivers in 5 classes. The 60 cc karts saw a mixed fortune with Zane and cousin Josh Maloney both claim first place with equal points at the end of the day. In the 230 class Samantha Gill stamped her dominance with 3 wins for the day over second place Joshua Parris and improving Javani Smith in third.

The largest class of the day was the Yamaha 270 which experienced keen driving through the day with Alexander Gill winning the day with 92 points over second place Tremaine Catwell and third place Ben Reid. New comer Ben Reid had a consistent day holding off strong challenges from the Hinds pair of Brian and Nicholas, John Foster and first timer Raphael Russel.

In the premiere Yamaha 310 Class Christian Hinds showed his skill by holding off the charge of the 2008 champion drive Matthew Noel in the final race of the day to win that race. Unfortunately it was not enough as he placed second to Matthew Noel, short of 2 points with Mark Kinch third and Allan Kinch fourth. The Kinchs both suffered mechanical difficulties on two of the races, both retiring when leading.

The shifters were spectacular all day with the racing being very close. In the reverse race of the day, the leader Paul Bourne started on pole however by the end of the race only slipped two positions, an excellent place considering the caliber of the competition. At the end of the day the winner Stuart Maloney clamed the highest points with former champion driver Orry Hunte in second and Sean Maloney third. Mark Jordan and Paul Bourne had good results however Mark Maloney suffered and engine failure and retired after race 1.

The BKAs next race day will be on 29th March at Bushy Park, entry is free and the public is invited. Visit www.barbadoskarting.com for more information.
